UNICEF:

The Six Cents Initiative

The Six Cents Initiative aims to provide clean water to those in need. Currently 1.1 billion people lack access to clean water across the globe. The greatest impact of contaminated water is on health – an estimated 4,500 children die each day due to waterborne illnesses.

UNICEF’s intent is to create sustainable access to clean water for communities; however, doing so takes time. For now, UNICEF has attempted to alleviate the problem by creating ORS (oral rehydration salt) packets to save children’s lives. The cost of each ORS packet is only 6 cents (US$0.06) - 6 cents that could save a child's life.
